Excavation
The pool shape is first excavated. This particular pool was excavated by hand. Because of the poor access, a large excavator could not enter the property. A rounded shape is ideal to support the direction of water flow around the system.
Pond Liner and Flooring
Next the pond tarp goes in followed by the rock flooring. Note that you do not need to choose a rock floor, a natural pool can still follow the standard pool finishing with tiles.
Water Filter System
The filter System has four chambers. For the first we use recycled fisherman's net to catch the large particles such as leaves first. Part of the maintenance for this system is to have this first chamber flushed out ever month. The second and third have lava rock, charcoal, terracotta and pumice. Whilst the last contains a fine sand and the UV lighting used to kill any bacteria before being pumped back into the pool. The pump needs to run for at least 8 hours every 24hrs (generally during the hottest hours during the day).

Water Feature: hand-sculpted cement rocks
We understand if you are choosing a natural pool, you might be asking yourself why you would make a cement rock? This water feature holds plants and little pools of water, which create a beautiful and functional feature. The other reason for our client to choose cement also because this particular site has no car access so for large rocks to enter the site it would require a huge amount of man power and therefore become quite costly and inconvenient.
